All RICE baskets are handmade from raffia, whose colour naturally varies. This variation is also reflected in the dyeing process: sometimes the colour is light, while at other times it is more intense. This means that no two baskets are ever exactly alike. The same applies to the shape, which may also vary slightly. We think it is part of the charm that you can see the product is handmade. If you order several baskets at once, we will send those that are closest to one another in colour and shape. Unfortunately, we cannot provide photos showing the different variations.

About the material: Raffia fibre is a wonderful natural material made from palm leaves, and RICE’s raffia comes from Madagascar. All raffia products are made with heart and produced in two villages in the mountains of Madagascar, where production helps provide the local communities with better and more plentiful resources. The production provides a livelihood for more than 300 families on the Red Island. As raffia is a natural material and the baskets are handmade, each product will vary slightly in colour, shape and size. The colours will fade if the product is exposed to constant sunlight. Avoid water, as it may cause the colour to run.
