The Story Behind MaMaMeMo
The story of MaMaMeMo began in 1997 – and, in fact, not with wooden toys at all.
At the time, the family behind the brand bought a small company in Vinderup called AM Konfektion. The company designed and produced doll clothes, as well as duvets and pillows for dolls. These were sewn by local home-based seamstresses and sold mainly to Danish toy shops.
After taking over the company, the family moved it to their home in Tarm, where everything from design and packing to shipping orders took place.
The company gradually grew, and the product range expanded. Over time, the family also began designing wooden toys.
And that was when something decisive happened.....
The first wooden toys they designed and had produced themselves were pretend food. It turned out to be a very good idea. The products became popular, and customers wanted more.
This marked the beginning of MaMaMeMo.
What Does the Name MaMaMeMo Mean?
The story behind the name is almost as heartwarming as the toys themselves.
Over the years, the family’s own children had been some of the best – and most critical – testers of the toys. So the new brand was to be named after them.
MaMaMeMo is made up of the first two letters of the names Marie, Mads, Mette and Morten.
This gives the brand name a personal meaning, while also revealing something essential about MaMaMeMo’s DNA: the family’s and the children’s own experience of play has been part of the brand right from the beginning.
The company later developed from AM Konfektion into AM Leg and changed its name to ASTRUP Group A/S in 2018. Today, the company is behind both MaMaMeMo and the brand byASTRUP.
